ANOTHER PLENARY WEEK OF THE FOURTH SESSION OF THE VERKHOVNA RADA OF UKRAINE OF THE SIXTH CONVOCATION CONCLUDED ON FRIDAY, 17 APRIL
Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, informed the participants of the meeting about the results of work of The Verkhovna Rada at the plenary meetings on 16 April.
The Chairman stated that two Factions, the BYuT and "Our Ukraine-People´s Self-Defense" insisted on a recess.
V.Lytvyn suggested reading out the deputy´s inquiries and then considering the issue concerning a recess. He read out the deputy´s inquiries. 144 deputy´s inquiries were read out in total, 4 inquiries were forwarded to the President of Ukraine.
A recess in the meeting was announced at the request of the Factions.
After the recess, the Chairman informed the People´s Deputies about the results of the Conciliative Council held during the break. The attendants of the meeting scrutinized the issue initiated by the BYuT representatives concerning the Draft Resolution on setting up a Temporary Inquiry Panel to investigate the circumstances of death of I.Pluzhnykov, People´s Deputy of Ukraine of the 4th Convocation, and seizure of his property, shares of "Inter" television company, by unknown persons.
According to V.Lytvyn, the Conciliative Council decided to scrutinize the Draft Resolution next plenary week.
The People´s Deputies scrutinized the matter concerning juration of three judges of the High Council of Justice elected by the congress of judges.
According to the resolution passed, the said Bills will be scrutinized next plenary week.
Representatives of three factions, the BYuT, "Our Ukraine-People´s Self-Defence" and the Lytvyn Bloc, called for juration of three judges of the High Council of Justice on that day. They suggested putting the said issue to the vote, and scrutinizing the Bills in case the issue is endorsed.
The Chairman put the motion to the vote. The People´s Deputies failed to uphold the motion.
People´s Deputy Valeriy Konovaliuk presented the Draft Resolution on the holding of parliamentary hearings "On Social, Medical and Pension Provision of War Veterans and Celebration of the 65th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945".
The parliamentary hearings were supposed to be held on 3 June 2009.
The Resolution on the holding of parliamentary hearings was adopted by 369 votes.
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine also passed the Resolution "On Guidelines of the Parliamentary Hearings on the Topic "On Organization and Holding of the Final Part of the European Football Championship in Ukraine" (378 votes).
The Draft Resolution "On Guidelines of the Parliamentary Hearings on the Topic "Current Conditions and Topical Tasks of overcoming Chornobyl Disaster Aftermath" was rejected (220 votes).
The People´s Deputies scrutinized the Bill on Amendments to the Law "On Television and Radio Broadcasting" (re Determination of the Rate of License Duty).
The opinions of the People´s Deputies were divided. In the result of the vote, the Bill on Amendments to the Law "On Television and Radio Broadcasting" (re Determination of the Rate of License Duty) was rejected.
In the end of the morning plenary meeting, the People´s Deputies presented their motions, announcements and appeals.
Concluding the meeting, Mykola Tomenko, Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, sent his greeting to the participants of the meeting on the occasion of Easter.
Then the morning plenary meeting was closed.
On 21-24 April, the People´s Deputies will work with the electors, on 27-30 April in the Committees and Factions.
The next plenary meeting of the fourth session is scheduled for Tuesday, 12 May.
