PLENARY MEETING OF THE THIRD SESSION OF THE VERKHOVNA RADA OF UKRAINE WAS HELD ON THURSDAY, 20 NOVEMBER
At the beginning of the morning meeting, Oleksandr Lavrynovych, First Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, announced that events devoted to the 75th anniversary of commemoration of victims of the 1932-1933 Holodomor (famine-genocide) in Ukraine were being held those days.
The People´s Deputies observed the minute´s silence in memory of the victims of the Holodomor.
O.Lavrynovych informed about the meeting of the leaders of Deputy Factions prior to the plenary meeting. He also informed about the resolution of the profile Committees concerning three anti-recessionary Bills submitted by the Government. However, the Cabinet of Ministers also introduced a number of anti-recessionary Bills that required consideration.
O.Lavrynovych informed that leaders of three Factions the Party of Regions, BYuT and "Our Ukraine People´s Self-Defence" called for working upon the anti-recessionary Bills in the Parliamentary Committees on Thursday and Friday, and non-holding of plenary meetings on these days.
However, the motion failed to endorsed by the People´s Deputies (155 votes).
Then the leaders of Deputy Factions presented their motions concerning further activity.
Viktor Kryvenko, member of the High Council of Justice, took the oath before The Verkhovna Rada.
O.Lavrynovych announced two suggestions concerning further activity: either to elect a Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada, or to work in the Committees on Thursday and Friday. The first motion failed to be supported (78 votes).
Representatives of the Factions presented their motions concerning further activity of the Parliament. Then two motions, concerning a 30-minute recess in the meeting and work in the Committees on Thursday and Friday, were put to the vote. The People´s Deputies upheld the latter motion by 302 votes.
O.Lavrynovych summed up: on 20-21 November, the People´s Deputies would work in the Committees, on 24-28 November with electors, and the next plenary meeting would be held on Tuesday, 2 December.
