After the first plenary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the VIII convocation, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, the newly elected Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman and Prime Minister Arsenii Yatseniuk met with Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn.
Participants of the meeting discussed the state and prospects of
developing cooperation and interaction between Ukraine and the EU. Volodymyr Groysman noted that establishment of a coalitional pro-European majority in the Parliament will allow implement the planned reforms, prepare amendments to the Constitution, and secure fulfillment of initiatives of the Head of the State and the Prime Minister of Ukraine.
“Our team has become more efficient. Implementation of the constitutional reform, as well as reforming the judicial system and legislative provision for decentralization are among the main tasks. We are getting to a new level of interaction and cooperation between the branches of power,” stressed Chairperson of the Parliament.
In his turn, Johannes Hahn noted that introduction of reforms in these
spheres is important for Ukraine.
He stressed also that Ukraine
has to work in the direction of establishing favorable investment climate. At the same time, the European Commissioner underlined that economic international assistance to Ukraine, particularly within the framework of the EU, has to be of investment rather than dotation nature.
According to him, economic sanctions in regard to Russia are not always favorable for the European economy, however, Europe realizes that Ukraine’s safety is the safety of the entire European continent, and that is why it upholds the policy of sanctions.
