Committee Chair Lilia Hrynevych noted: “Adoption of the Law “On Higher Education” is one of the first systemic reforms adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of the seventh convocation that in fact draws us closer to integration with Europe.”
“However, we have encountered lots of obstacles on the way to implementing the Law. And our main obstacle is we ourselves, i.e. conservativeness of our academic environments and ill-preparedness for independent moves. That is why today we should discuss in detail each step we have to take in order to implement the Law “On Higher Education,” stressed the Committee Chair.
“The Strategy for reforming higher education in Ukraine until 2020, presented today, is an important document and we are grateful for it.” This document provides us with a horizon and a future outlook on the development of higher education. However, this document also demonstrates what enormous work we have to carry out on the way to direct implementation of the Law “On Higher Education”.
“We are entering a complicated, still great time of possible changes and reforms. I hope that education, particularly higher education, and science will find their decent place in the coalition agreement that is being discussed at present,” stressed Chairperson of the parliamentary Committee.
The issues regarding strategic orienting points for the development of higher education, implementation of a new Law “On Higher Education”, autonomy and responsibility of universities, as well as maintaining quality of higher education were also discussed during the conference.
European experts, members of the National team of experts on matters of reforming higher education and representatives of higher educational institutions of Ukraine were in attendance at the meeting. European experts participate in the conference under the auspices of the British Council in Ukraine.
