The round table discussion was organized by the Committee jointly with the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, USETI Alliance and Socires Foundation (the Netherlands).

International experts Prof. Jan de Groof, Chairman of the European Association for Education Law and Policy, Charles L. Glenn, Professor at Boston University, as well as national experts and public figures in the educational sphere were in attendance of the event that took place on September 12, 2014.

Chairperson of the Committee on Science and Education Liliia Hrynevych noted that “before discussing the national strategy for reforming education, we should establish its main tasks first.”

Firstly, in connection with signing the EU Association Agreement by Ukraine, the Ukrainian youth should be competitive in the European dimension.

The second task proceeds from the situation around the unequal access to qualitative education that was deepened in the past years. “Results of the Independent External Assessment show that there is a gap between the possibilities of gaining higher education by children from villages and cities, and those from ordinary schools and specialized ones,” noted the Committee Chairperson.

And the third task, which is extremely important and should be considered in the course of reforming education, lies in the necessity to “sew” our country after the complicated events that we are facing now.

“This should be implemented through the bridge of education. It should be embodied in the educational system and in the possibility of sharing experience by means of exchanging children and youth from different parts of the country. Educational system is the best platform for this,” stressed L.Hrynevych.
