As L.Hrynevych stressed, of almost eight million children in the country nearly one million children live in Donbas. "It is obvious that children staying in the conflict zone are at risk of their rights being violated, particularly, their right to education", she said.
L.Hrynevych emphasized that "there are different categories of children, the most vulnerable are those raised at boarding schools – orphans and disabled children. Nearly 300 of such children are still in the Anti-terrorist operation area. There is the other category of children who have been evacuated and are now living far away from their homes. They are living on the territories of other Oblasts of Ukraine and need to be integrated into the system of education there".
In the words of the Chair of the Committee, the major problem lies in renewing educational establishments on the territories of Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts. According to an overall estimate, buildings of 182 educational establishments were seriously damaged.
The people's deputy also stressed that matters concerning personnel should be resolved as well. A part of people working in the system of education in the damaged regions had to be evacuated.
"Psychological and social rehabilitation of children that have undergone these hardships form another problem of great importance. Children have suffered serious psychological trauma. Children from the military conflict zone need special attention and help. Psychological rehabilitation is another topic requiring additional staff potential, which educational establishments lack", claimed L.Hrynevych.
The event was organized by the Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights and United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Representation in Ukraine. Governmental representatives, representatives of local authorities, of the public, and of international organizations participated in this event.
