The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ihor Kalyetnik participated in the Chornobyl disaster victims commemorating ceremony on Friday.
The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov, the First-Vice-Prime Minister of Ukraine Serhiy Arbuzov and other officials laid flowers to the Commemorative burial mound “To the Heroes of Chornobyl” and memorial sign "Warriors of Chornobyl". Veterans-liquidators of the Chornobyl accident have also laid flowers to the monument.
During the performance of the National Anthem of Ukraine, in the process of the ceremony, military men have fired six salvos into the air and simultaneously a column of alarming fire pumper engines passed by.
“Chornobyl accident has left not only deep sorrow in our memory. Chornobyl aftermath mitigation is not only the task of the government and the parliament. This is our duty, our common task and huge responsibility, for life and health of our citizens and future generations is at stake. We should commemorate those who died and suffered during the catastrophe. But even more important is our concern that the younger generation did not experience the effects of the tragedy,” noted I.Kalyetnik.
