At the beginning of the meeting, the Committee Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn noted that Indonesia is one of the biggest countries of the South-Eastern Asia, which is dynamically developing. According to him, Ukraine is also at the stage of transition to absolutely new quality. Thus, exchange of experience between the parliament members of both countries will be mutually beneficial.     

V.Lytvyn noted that Ukraine has adopted the entire required legislative basis in the sphere of defense and security, which corresponds to international standards, in short time.

The Committee Chairman informed guests about the possibilities of Ukraine in the military and technical sphere, spoke about the significant export potential of the state on the gun market, and about great possibilities of the security and industrial complex in the sphere of production and modernization of military equipment.   

V.Lytvyn expressed hope that the visit of the Indonesian Parliament shall give new meaning to relations between the two countries and shall accelerate signing of the Agreement on military and technical cooperation.

Chairman of the Committee on Internal Affairs of the People’s Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia Mahfudz Siddiq noted that this is the first visit of the parliamentary delegation and it aims at deepening bilateral relations. “It is important for us to establish relations not only in economic and political sphere, but also in the sphere of security and defense,” he stressed.

Mahfudz Siddiq informed about the legal basis of Indonesia that ensures functioning of its armed forces and their modernization. He stood for prolonging Memorandum on Mutual Understanding between Indonesia and Ukraine. 

The First Deputy Chairman of the Committee Anatoliy Kinakh informed that Ukraine is a non-aligned, neutral state.

The Chairman of the subcommittee Oleksandr Kuzmuk focused attention on the legislative acts recently adopted by the Verkhovna Rada and aiming at further modernization of the Armed Forces and their technical re-equipment.

Participants of the meeting discussed some other aspects of cooperation; stood for further development of parliamentary relations and establishment of mutually beneficial contacts.
