David Diaz-Jogeix, Europe and Central Asia programme deputy director at Amnesty International; company researcher Heza McGill; Max Tucker, Ukraine campaigner at Amnesty International and Director at Amnesty International Ukraine Tetyana Mazur participated in the meeting.

A.Kozhemiakin informed representatives of Amnesty International that the Committee attaches a lot of attention to the issue of adherence to the rights and freedoms of human in the activity of the law enforcement bodies. He informed also that according to the Association of Ukrainian Monitors data, 60% of respondents believe that nobody is safe from “police violence”.

“The Committee has held special hearings on adherence to human rights in the activity of internal bodies and has adopted the respective recommendations and established control over their implementation. The Committee has organized and held parliamentary hearings “On reforming the system of Internal Affairs bodies of Ukraine and introduction of the European standards”. Representatives of all law enforcement and international organizations participated in the hearings, including the Director at Amnesty International Ukraine Tetyana Mazur,” noted the Committee Chairman. 

David Diaz-Jogeix, Europe and Central Asia programme deputy director at Amnesty International informed that the report on the results of a multi year activities of the Amnesty International in Ukraine shall be released on April 1, 2013. It shall, particularly, include evidence of violation of human rights in Ukraine.

A.Kozhemiakin agreed with the International Amnesty representatives that subdivisions of internal security of both the law enforcement and prosecutor bodies responsible for prevention, disclosure of facts and holding guilty law enforcement officers liable work insufficiently.  

The issue of practical implementation of the new Criminal Procedure Code and preparation of new draft laws were also discussed during the meeting.
