The Parties focused attention on the issues of usefulness of the USAID Mission Projects, involving also the Verkhovna Rada, and discussed achievements and drawbacks of cooperation for the past few years.
S.Kivalov noted that cooperation of the project with the parliamentary committee was both useful and effective.
S.Kivalov informed representatives of the USAID Mission on the work of the Committee on the Rule of Law and Justice in the sphere of law-making and on the course of the justice reform. He spoke also about legislative plans for the nearest future.
“We still have a lot of common topics for discussion and some acute issues are waiting for settlement. We continue working on unification of our procedural codes, on refinement of legislation in the sphere of judicial system and the status of judges, and on bringing them in line with the European standards,” said S.Kivalov.
The Committee Chairman noted that the bill aimed at amending authorities of the Supreme Court of Ukraine is now under preparation in the Parliament.
During the meting, attention was attached to the future Constitutional reform.
The Parties discussed direction of future cooperation with the USAID Mission in Ukraine for the next three years.
The Democracy Project Manager on Development Oleksandr Piskun supported the suggestion to updated memorandum on cooperation. Alex Newton said that he finds this meeting extremely useful. “I am impressed with the number of reforms carried out in Ukraine for the last few years,” he said.
The Parties agreed to cooperate even more effectively to reach accessibility of justice and transparency of the legal system of Ukraine.
