During the meeting, which was held in the Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, V.Nalyvaichenko noted that Ukrainian migrant workers suffer from double discrimination: “firstly – in the host states, where they are in worse socio-economic conditions, and secondly – in their own country which does not assist them and does not protect their rights”.

He expressed conviction that there is a need to adopt the law on external labour migration that would help settle the problems of Ukrainian migrants: “We will uphold such a law and provide it with real instruments to support Ukrainians abroad”.

People’s deputy stressed that the state should finance Ukrainian schools, libraries, cultural centers and organizations of migrants. V.Nalyvaichenko drew attention to the urgent need of support to Ukrainian mass media abroad.

“Apart form support to Ukrainians abroad, all conditions should be established to bring work migrants back to Ukraine,” believes the people’s deputy.

“It cannot be done without cooperation with public. We shall organize parliamentary hearings on this issue, as well as hearings in the Committee on Foreign Affairs. The Law on external labour migration shall undergo broad public discussion,” assured V.Nalyvaichenko.

People’s deputies of Ukraine, representatives from executive power and organizations of migrant workers participated in the round table discussion.
