Taking into consideration importance and topicality of these issues, people’s deputies, representatives of the central bodies of executive power, all-Ukrainian non-governmental organizations of veterans and their regional departments participated in the hearings.
Is was stated during the hearings that next year in February 25 years will pass since the last Soviet soldier left the territory of the Republic of Afghanistan.
Members of the event stressed that “Afghan military campaign that lasted many years brought suffering not only to the people of Afghanistan, it touched also our compatriots. For long 9 years of war in Afghanistan more that 3000 Ukrainians died, 80 were not found, 8000 Ukrainians were wounded, more that 3500 became disabled. Number of Ukrainians suffered at the war is the second largest among the countries of the former USSR.”
Members of the discussion drew attention to the fact that only 320 UAH per year are paid for personal treatment of disabled veteran of Afghanistan. Thus, the level of state provision with sanatorium and resort treatments is getting worse each year, in particular, in 2012 it is less than 50% of the needed.
It was noted also that the issue of proper financial support for mothers and widows of the fallen soldiers requires a substantial revision: the amount of pensions they receive, could not most provide basic human needs.
At the end the accent was made on the fact that a solution of these and many other burning questions will be reflected in the Recommendations of the hearings that will be approved at the next meeting of the Committee and their implementation will be taken under special control.
