The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Rybak stresses that strengthening of social and legal protection of both veterans of the Great Patriotic War and all soldiers-internationalists should be one of the priorities in the work of the Parliament in the social sphere.
The Chairman of the Parliament said this on Wednesday during the meeting with the representatives of veteran organizations of Ukraine on occasion of the 24th anniversary of withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan. He stressed the need to increase funding in this direction “since families that lost their breadwinners and veteran soldiers should be protected by the state, provided with housing, work, proper rehabilitation and sanatorium and resort treatment”.
Volodymyr Rybak emphasized that today we should use best international practices in regard to protection of veterans. According to him, special attention should be drawn to elaborations of the Committee for the affairs of soldiers-internationalists under the CIS Council of Heads of Government chaired by Ruslan Aushev. Thereat, Volodymyr Rybak noted that there are all necessary laws to support veterans and soldiers-internationalists. However, their implementation requires serious refinement and proper planning.
Volodymyr Rybak presented Diplomas of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and valuable presents of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the combatants of military operation in the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan and Afghan movement activists for an outstanding contribution to the protection of interests of Homeland and active citizenship. Wishing health and welfare to the participants of the meeting, Volodymyr Rybak assured that “the parliament will work, stepping over crisis, and will do its best to find ways to reduce the debt of the state before the veterans and all categories of people who need its support”.
On behalf of the executive Committee for the affairs of soldiers-internationalists under the CIS Council of Heads of Government its chair Ruslan Aushev presented honorable Jubilee Medal “20 ??years of Soviet troop withdrawal from Afghanistan” to the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
