The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Rybak considers the meeting between the leaders of the Parliament, faction leaders, and chairmen of the Committees with the European Commissioner as “a parliamentary summit from the Ukrainian side”.
In his interview to the Rada TV Channel, Volodymyr Rybak characterized the meeting and exchange of views between the people’s deputies and the European Commissioner “as, in a way, a new word in the parliamentary diplomacy”. “It was an interactive and open dialogue between the leaders of the Verkhovna Rada, all political forces, and all parliamentary committees with the European Commissioner,” he said. “I would call it a parliamentary summit from the Ukrainian side,” he added.
The Chairman of the Parliament stressed also that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine “has confirmed its traditional openness, democracy and has shown real views and attitudes of the entire Ukrainian society, particularly, as regards to the course of the President of Ukraine towards European integration of our country”.
“What concerns the contents of our dialogue, I can only say that it reassured that despite deep opposition in the Verkhovna Rada on a number of political problems, certain unity in regard to Euro-integrational policy and practical course of bringing Ukraine closer to the European values and standards can be observed,” said Volodymyr Rybak.
“One more conclusion: it is high time for the Parliament to get down to practical work in order to realize the Euro-integrational course which lies in large-scale societal reforms, designed by the President of Ukraine. These reforms cannot be implemented, unless legislatively supported,” stressed Volodymyr Rybak.
