The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USA to Ukraine John Tefft.

The Parties expressed interest both in cooperation and readiness to deepen it at parliamentary level and in further development of economic, investment and cultural projects.

I.Kalyetnik informed Mr. Ambassador of preparation to the second session of the Parliament which will start next Thursday. According to him, more than 600 bills were referred to parliamentary committees for consideration. Among them there is the initiative to hold parliamentary elections on many topical issues, including three bills that stipulate amendments to the Constitution, legislative proposals regarding deputy immunity, language issues, and bills of economic direction.

In this context, I.Kalyetnik believes that it is important to reach coordinated work between the factions. He informed that the meeting of the leaders of parliamentary factions with the leaders of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine was held today. They discussed the importance of “adjusting colleagues for constructive cooperation. In view of the statement of the opposing factions to block the work of the Parliament due to non-implementation of Rada-3 system, I.Kalyetnik stressed that today “it is worth separating political convictions and understanding of a fact that Ukraine, as a state, should live and work and the decisions are to be taken”. He called it negative that due to some made-up reasons the ways are found to prevent Parliament from working, particularly, the initiated dismissal of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada. “Everyone is well aware that this issue bears the traits of political insinuations, since we all know that there are not enough votes to vote for the dismissal of the Chairman,” I.Kalyetnik said, noting that “it only prevents us from working constructively and we want every deputy colleague realize it”.

The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stressed that today Ukrainian Parliament tries to develop domestic legislation in line with world standards, create favorable conditions for doing business, attracting investment, and developing trade. The Parties stressed the increase of sales volume between Ukraine and the USA which is about 4 billion US dollars.

I.Kalyetnik and J.Tefft were common in their desire “to do everything possible for representatives of the parliaments of both countries could effectively communicate” and deepen interstate relations at parliamentary level.
