The bill “To amend the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Infringements re regulating responsibility for committing family violence” (Reg.No. 1181) prepared by the members of the inter-faction union “Equal opportunities” Herashchenko I.V., Kondratiuk O.K., Berezhna I.H., Pavlenko R.M., Tarasiuk B.I., Rozenkko P.V., Hrynevych L.M. and Byelkova O.V. suggests abandoning fines, and, instead, actively using corrective work and administrative arrest against those abusing their families. People’s deputies stress that law enforcement bodies have received almost 85 thousand allegations of domestic violence, whose victims are predominantly women and children, over a period of this year.
The draft law “To amend the Family Code of Ukraine” (re establishing the parentage of a child, whose parents are not married) (Reg.No. 1180) also prepared by Herashchenko I.V., Kondratiuk O.K., Berezhna I.H., Pavlenko R.M., Tarasiuk B.I., Rozenkko P.V., Hrynevych L.M. and Byelkova O.V. determines exclusively legal process in case there is a need to establish parentage, if one of the parents is either a foreigner or stateless. The authors believe that adoption of the bill will allow for reducing possibilities for covert child trafficking in Ukraine.
The bill “To amend several legislative acts of Ukraine to ensure equality between single mothers and single fathers” (Reg. No. 1179), authored by the co-heads of the inter-faction union “Equal opportunities” Berezhna I.H. and Herashchenko I.V., suggests classifying single parents requiring improvement of housing conditions, as entitled to get out-of-turn accommodation.
The bill suggests also amending the Law “On Employment”.
The authors believe that adoption of amendments will allow for bringing the rights of single parents in line with the principles of gender equality and social justice.
Members of the inter-faction union “Equal opportunities” stress that they plan to concentrate on two key aspects during their work in the Verkhovna Rada of the new convocation, particularly, on advocating gender equality and developing joint legislative initiatives pertaining to combating domestic violence, protecting rights of women and children and establishing equal possibilities for men and women in different aspects of social life.
Apart from this, the co-head of the union I. Herashchenko said it is planned to continue active work aiming at Ukraine’s fulfillment of its international commitments regarding gender equality and increasing the number of women in politics.
