ON WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 12, THE SOLEMN MEETING OF THE VERKHOVNA RADA OF UKRAINE OF THE SEVENTH CONVOCATION ON THE OCCASION OF TAKING OATHS BY THE NEWLY ELECTED PEOPLES DEPUTIES OF UKRAINE TOOK PLACE.

 

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the sixth convocation Volodymyr Lytvyn called the solemn meeting to order.

 

On behalf of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the sixth convocation V. Lytvyn greeted the newly elected peoples deputies, and wished them fruitful and effective work in the highest legislative body of Ukraine.

 

The Chairman informed that the following persons were present at the meeting: the Prime-Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov, members of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the First President of Ukraine L. Kravchuk, Chairmen of the Verkhovn Rada of Ukraine of previous convocations, Chief Judge and judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Ukraine, Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Chief Judge of the High Administrative Court of Ukraine, the Head of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariat, Chief Judge of the High Administrative Court of Ukraine, Chief Judge of the High Specialized Court of Ukraine for Civil and Criminal Cases, Head of the National Bank of Ukraine, Head o the State Property Fund of Ukraine, Head of the Anti-Monopoly Committee of Ukraine, Head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Head of the High Council of Justice, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, chairmen of regional councils, chairman of the Sevastopol city council, representatives of diplomatic missions, religious denominations, and mass media.

 

Following the Constitution of Ukraine, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the sixth convocation Volodymyr Lytvyn invited the oldest peoples deputy Yukhym Zvyahilskyi to the rostrum to read out the text of the oath: “I swear fealty to Ukraine. I undertake the obligation to defend the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine with all my actions, to care of well-being of my Homeland and welfare of the Ukrainian people. I promise to observe the Constitution of Ukraine and the laws of Ukraine and perform my duties in the interest of all my fellow-citizens.”

 

People’s deputies where standing while listening to the text of the oath.

 

A choir sang the spiritual anthemPrayer for Ukraine”.

 

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the sixth convocation Volodymyr Lytvyn informed the newly-elected peoples deputies about the procedure of taking oath. He invited people’s deputies to affix the text of the oath with their seals and announced a break by 12.00 p.m..

 

The signing ceremony took place in the lobby of the session hall.

 

Having signed the texts of the oath, the newly elected peoples deputies passed them to the registrars, received their permanent IDs and personal voting cards, and registered for participation in the plenary meeting.
