It was noted at the meeting that the National Report on the State of Natural Environment in Ukraine in 2011 (the Report) has been prepared by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine together with the State Ecology Academy of Postgraduate Education and Administration of the Ministry of Ecology following the structure approved by the Decree of the Ministry of Ecology of April 19, 2012 No. 240.
The edition contains 15 chapters describing the present state and dynamics of changes, particularly, in regard to pollution of air, water and land resources.
To protect air and climate, the enterprises took conservation measures that facilitated the decrease of emissions into the atmospheric air by 55.7 thousand tons.
It is stressed in the Report that ecological state of surface water objects and quality of water in them are the main factors of sanitary and epidemiological well-being of the population.
Ecological situation in the Black and Azov Seas remains tense.
The Committee drew attention to the fact that the share of reserve territories in Ukraine is insufficient and remains much smaller that in the majority of European countries, where reserve territories occupy on average 15% of the territory.
Ecological state of land use in the country has approached the dangerous border behind which irreversible natural processes can take place.
To decrease the influence of accumulated waste on natural resources, the State Environment Protection Administrations in the Regions shall coordinate the work of all interested companies and organizations, the activity of which is connected with collection and utilization of hazardous waste.
People’s deputies drew attention to the fact that the tendency towards decrease of the total number of emergencies remained in Ukraine in 2011 (in comparison with 2010, total number of emergencies decreased by 13%).
In 2011, a number of area-specific and regional state programs to reform Ukrainian industry and reduce man-induced load on environment were implemented following the National Action Plan on Environment Protection for 2011-2015.
The Committee recommended that the National Report on the State of the Environment in Ukraine in 2011 prepared by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine should be published.
