Duty, service and love are the corn stones of Christian faith. They should be imported into social, political and public consciousness to unite country by joint goal, Christian postulates and democratic values.

This was stressed by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, greeting the participants of the prayer breakfast “Christian mission in the modern world: “Duty, Service, Love” that took place in the Parliament on Thursday.

V.Lytvyn claimed that he gives warm encouragement to the idea of holding annual prayer breakfasts in the Ukrainian Parliament “as the Head of the Verkhovna Rada, a faithfiull Cristian and a religious person”. He believes that “a prayer as a moment of truth, revelation with God and absolute openness with oneself would come in hand to some people’s deputies, especially those, fully immersed in politics”.

“Time, country and people demand that our people’s deputies pray with all their heart, mind and spirit. Aren’t the three core words heading our prayer breakfast: “Duty, Service, Love” the best guideline for people, for a Christian, and a politician in their faith, life, family, state and public activity? Pre-election communication with people demands openness, concern, denial of hypocrisy and suspension of what is now going on in Ukraine – the fair of political hypocrisy, he said. The prayer in the name of our salvation as Christians and people, is becoming urgent, especially, from the critical perspective of spiritual problems of our nation.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna  Rada drew attention to the fact that Ukrainian society is becoming more indurate in terms of spirituality and morality. There is “a serious social crisis in understanding the nature of our own country, social needs, as well as real and not imaginary aspirations and hopes of people”. “The loss of social guidelines by the shepherd and laity, as well as weak search for social core causes the atmosphere of tens and challenge in the country, the climate of hostility in politics that threatens the collapse of our statehood and arises as a result of,” he said. V.Lytvyn claimed that we should believe and our faith should materialize in practical, reasonable, responsible actions”.

V.Lytvyn stressed that current election campaign “is built mainly and mostly on hatred”. “There can be no faith in hatred. This is an axiom. Children are not born in hatred. I would like that everyone, who is involved in the political campaign, would hear us today,” he noted.
