With deep sorrow the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine announces that the Head of the Commission for the former Partisans of WWII 1941-1945 attached to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Candidate of Science in History, Doctor of Philosophy, Captain 1st Rank (Retired) Vasyl Oleksandrovych Konkov passed away at the age of 85.
Konkov V.O. was born on January 14, 1927 in the village of Vodayne, Shpolyansk district of Cherkasy region.
During the WWII, as a teenager, he participated in partisan movement within Vodyany underground organization and partisan unit named after Kutuzov.
1944-1949 – service in the Armed Forces of the USSR. 1965-1975 – assistant of the Minister of Social Security of the Ukrainian SSR.
From 1979 – service in the Commission for the former partisans of WWII, were he held a post of a senior consultant and executive secretary and then became the Head of the Commission in 1997.
KonkovV.O. was one of the organizer’s of veteran movement in Ukraine. He initiated Kyiv City Organization of Partisans and Undergrounders. Vasyl Oleksandrovych actively supported the establishment of the state holiday – the Day of Partisan Glory.
Vasyl Oleksandrovych Konkov is the author of a number of researches on the history of partisan movement in Ukraine during WWII.
The state highly appreciates his military and labour achievements. KonkovV.O. is the Full Cavalier of the Orders of Merit and of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi. He was awarded with two Orders of WWII and Order of Courage of the third degree, as well as numerous medals and diplomas of the USSR and Ukraine.
A tireless fighter, talented organizer, active public figure, devoted defender of veterans’ rights and interests, who selflessly served his Motherland, passed away.
The cherished memory of Vasyl Oleksandrovych Konkov will forever remain in our grateful hearts.
