Ukraine and Jordan have significant potential to broaden cooperation in all spheres. This was stressed by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Lytvyn during his meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Mr. Abdelkarim Al-Doghmi on Monday.
V.Lytvyn signified his satisfaction with the first official visit of the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to Ukraine, saying that last year “we had a pleasure to host in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine His Majesty King Abdullah II”. “I am convinced that Your visit will allow for broadening bilateral cooperation including its inter-parliamentary component and promote establishing close contacts between our countries and people,” the Head of the Ukrainian Parliament said.
V.Lytvyn stressed the necessity to activate inter-parliamentary ties between Ukraine and Jordan at all levels noting that bilateral inter-parliamentary component has great untapped potential. He also expressed his hopes that inter-parliamentary friendship groups will be established in the Parliaments of our states after parliamentary elections.
Speaking about trade and economic cooperation, V.Lytvyn noted that Ukraine treats Jordan as one of the most important trade partners in the Middle East. The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada and the Speaker of the House of Representatives stressed the importance of searching the ways for further increasing and diversification of cooperation in this sphere.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada believes that further development of cooperation engineering, industry, construction, scientific and technical, agricultural, banking and financial, scientific and educational spheres is prospective. V.Lytvyn stressed also the prospects of development cooperation in implementing joint invectment projects, particularly, in the sphere of medicine and agriculture.
In his turn, the Speaker of the House of Representatives hopes that current visit of the parliamentary delegation from Jordan will allow for activating and broadening bilateral relations. He also highly appreciated the results of the official visit of the President of Ukraine V.Yanukovych to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in April this year. “Our relations cover wide spectrum and there are great possibilities for their further development,” A.Al-Doghmi said.
The Parties supported the need for development of cooperation in cultural and humanitarian spheres. According to V.Lytvyn, Ukraine is ready to broaden cooperation in the sphere of education, particularly, activating student exchange. The Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament believes that holding Cultural Days of Ukraine in Jordan and Jordan in Ukraine will promote rapprochement of our people.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada informed on the course of the election campaign in Ukraine expressing hopes that elections will be held in line with international standards. The electoral systems of Ukraine and Jordan were discussed during the meeting.
V.Lytvyn noted that Ukraine closely follows the events in the Arab world. In this context he highly appreciated the role Jordan plays in settling territorial conflicts.
