Ukraine is an active
supporter of inter-civilizational dialogue aimed at
strengthening the culture of peace and establishment of its principles as the
basis for international policy. The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine
Volodymyr Lytvyn stressed this speaking at the inter-disciplinary conference "Ukraine Israel. 20th
anniversary of diplomatic relations: experience, achievements, and prospects"
which is held at the parliament.
"In conditions when modern world is constantly shattered by inter-ethnical and interdenominational conflicts, it is very important to preserve stability and understanding in the society; and it is important for the international community to learn how to live in the atmosphere of mutual respect, and religious and civilizational diversity," said the Head of the Parliament. "The world cannot allow for the reclamation of resources to turn into conflict which, in its turn, will multiply collisions of inter-ethnical, interdenominational and xenophobic character."
According to V. Lytvyn, Ukraine, understanding the importance of this problem, is an active supporter of inter-civilizational dialogue aimed at strengthening the culture of peace and establishment of its principles as the basis for international policy. "We believe that we can and should live in concord, without conflicts, both inside the society and between the societies," he stressed.
The Chairman of
the Verkhovna Rada noted that history of the Ukrainian and Israeli people has
much in common. "Both Ukrainians and Jews were deprived of possibility to
create their own state for many centuries; they were scattered around different
countries, suffered great losses during the Stalin repressions and during the
WWII; they fought for their national identity for centuries," he said. V.
Lytvyn reminded also that the names of many prominent founding fathers of Israel and outstanding scientists are connected
with Ukraine.
"Ukrainian-Jewish relations keep developing dynamically and their important role is doubted neither by Ukrainians, nor by Jews," he stressed. "We have gone a long way over the last two decades and managed to bring our relations to a qualitatively new level based on common values and democratic principles." In this context, V. Lytvyn emphasized the role and work of friendship associations "Ukraine-Israel" and "Israel-Ukraine" and the Parliaments of the two states.
"We are ready to extend our dialogue, find new crossing points, and share our experience in looking for answers to new challenges and risks," he stated.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada wished the participants of the Conference an active dialogue, creative achievements and reasonable results that would serve for strengthening peace, tolerance and stability.
