On opening the meeting, the Chair of the Subcommittee on international legal affairs and gender policy Olena Bondarenko stressed that more than one forth of the earth population are village women. That is why they play an important role in the countries with the leading agricultural branch of economy.
O.Bondarenko stressed that the Coalition of Civic Organisations presented a report on gender problems to the Un Universal Periodic Review in March this year.
The people?s deputy stressed also that Ukraine ratified the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women in 1980. "Thus, we have committed ourselves to take measures to prevent discrimination in all spheres".
It was mentioned that the provision of the Convension regarding the right to access to proper medical care including information, consultation and family planning services was implemented only in Cherkasy and Volyn region.
The participants of the event also discussed several other provisions of the Convention.
By results of discussion, O.Bondarenko stresed that "Taking into account the preparation of the Concept of State Program to ensure equal rights and possibilities to women and men for the period up till 2016, it is important that it includes special measures for rural women". The people?s deputy believes that relative parliamentary committies, as well as the respective bodies of executive power, public and international organisations should involve themselves in the abovementioned work.
