The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Lytvyn stresses that the law on elections should be implemented by all the participants of the electoral process.

 

On Thursday, during his meeting with the Election Observation Mission of the OSCE Provisional Commission to observe the 28 October parliamentary elections in Ukraine, V.Lytvyn noted that authority is not to interfere into the electoral process but to create favourable conditions to maintaine free will of citizens. "The authority should serve as an example and the rest of the participants of the election race should also act within the law," he said.

 

V.Lytvyn informed on the work of the Parliament during the last session of his current cadence, noting that the necessity to change the work schedule is preconditioned by the election campaign. V.Lytvyn explained that the usage of the Verkhovna Rada tribune by representatives from parliamentary parties places other participants of the election race in unequal conditions. Apart from this, the Chairman of the Parliament said that deputies will try to make populist decisions "that can bear a negative influence on the future of the country". They may also try to amend the electoral law depending on the situation. "We cannot let the higher representative body to be discriminated," he said.

 

Analyzing the course of the election campaign, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada stressed that "it is quite active" in terms of candidates? appearance in the mass media. At the same time, he noted that some part of voters has not yet made their final decision and that people will make it closer to the day of voting.

 

According to V.Lytvyn, political fight in October will be severe. "Political clashes will exacerbate, as well as ‘the war of compromising materials and ratings". The Head of the Parliament reminded that 87 parties and a great number of candidates from majoritarian districts will participate in the elections.
