The Committee on Legislative Support of Law Enforcement recommends the Verkhovna Rada to adopt the Bill on Amendments to the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine (re Support of the Journalist's Right to protect the Sources of Information)

The bill (Reg. No. 8256) qualifies journalists as the individuals who cannot be questioned as witnesses. The Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine is supplemented with a new clause "Conditions of Search and Seizure concerning Journalists", whereby the head of the court of appeal shall pass a reasoned decree to carry out search and seizure in the mass media premises.

The committee members upheld the bill, since its adoption will support the journalists´ right to protect the sources of information.
