Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, expressed for Considerable Increase of State Assistance Rate in Book Publishing Industry.

Chairman during visiting VII Kyiv International Book Exhibition Fair.
Asked by the journalists regarding present state of book publishing industry in Ukraine, V. Lytvyn stated quite a difficult situation. "Publishers in our country are enthusiastic people thus it is extremely important to provide state assistance at lest of significant works", he explained.
The Head of the Parliament expressed the thought that increase of book publishing rates even in two times is insufficient. "It should be increase in ten times at least", V. Lytvyn is convinced and stated that the Verkhovna Rada would definitely uphold such initiatives if such took place.
Asked by the journalists V. Lytvyn declared: "Regular book fairs and exhibitions in Ukraine disprove the thesis that we are a nation that doe not read." Though, he expressed regret regarding inaccessibility of books because of their high price.
Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine emphasized a great quantity of publishing houses that demonstrate "great possibilities", namely, in publishing of books for children with special needs. "It is good since information technologies can not replace the basic informational bulk as the book does", he explained.
Discussing an issue of electronic book readers, V. Lytvyn reminded that according to data of recent opinion polls, one third of people use information placed on electronic media. "Probably, it should be taken into consideration, but frankly speaking, I am quite conservative personality and used to see paper books and take a pencil to make some notice etc to provide ‘conversation with book´. The same situation is with many people of my generation nothing can replace us a real book."
According to V. Lytvyn, he bought today second and third part of Haruki Murakami´s work ІQ84. He explained that during his vocation he had met wife of Ivan Dziuba, who is one of the best translators from Japanese and translated this book. "She presented me the first part and I´ve read it during my holidays", the Head of the Parliament informed.
