The bill (Reg. No. 8493) amends clause 38 of the applicable law, whereby absence of gluten in the foodstuffs should be notified on the label by a note "gluten-free." Food product is considered gluten-free, if the content of gluten does not exceed 20 mg/100g of the gross weight of the product in a unit of package.

The primary goal of the bill is to prevent acute conditions and life-threatening complications in the patients with gluten-sensitive enteropathy - one of the most widespread genetic diseases caused by intolerance of gluten.

The committee members believe that the suggested amendment on notifying of the absence of gluten in foodstuffs, and the threshold level of labeling of gluten-free products meet the international requirements.
