European Information Support Center, which provides information connected with the European Union, was set up at the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine under the assistance of the European Union, particularly Ukrainian-European Policy and Legal Advice Center.
Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine V.Lytvyn considers opening of the European Information Support Center at the Parliament to be an important stage in the implementation of the European integration policy.
Addressing the participants of the event, he stated, "I expect the center to offer new opportunities for the Ukrainian law-makers, experts, parliamentary committees, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariate, and law experts to get information about the European Union, give access to the EU legislative base, and provide extra information-analytical support."
V.Lytvyn
stressed, "It is vitally important in view of the fact that Ukraine jointly
with the European Union is preparing the acts on political association, free
trade zone, and visa-free regime." The Head of the Parliament stressed that the
information center "will become a new instrument for harmonizing Ukrainian laws with the EU law, and
informing the People´s Deputies about impartial and responsible perception of
the European Union." He stated that orientation of Ukraine´s foreign policy
towards Europe consolidates Ukrainian life and enjoys public support. "I understand
that we shall practice such law-making as the European Parliament and national
parliaments of EU member states do," the Head of the Parliament stated.
V.Lytvyn informed that the European Information Support Center was set up on the basis of computer, information, and network infrastructure of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. Along these lines, he expects the information center to become a pilot project of the information-analytical and search component of the long-awaited E-Parliament system.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine thanked the longtime partners of the European Parliament for their support: representative office of the European Union in Ukraine, Ukrainian-European Policy and Legal Advice Center, Program of Assistance to the Parliament, committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, particularly the European Integration Committee.
