Information of the Press Secretary of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for the Mass Media
Dear colleagues! I bring to your notice that several information agencies gave subjective evaluations towards the response of Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, to the questions regarding court proceedings against Yulia Tymoshenko, Ex-Prime Minister of Ukraine. Since the issue discussed during the interview to the Izvestia v Ukraine newspaper is rather sensitive, it is important to stress that evaluating the events connected with the above-mentioned court proceedings, V. Lytvyn stated that it is the behaviour of Yu. Tymoshenko and her team in the court that discredit judicial service.
Moreover, discussing the possible dangerous consequences of such behavior for the judicial system, V. Lytvyn has not mentioned 'amortization' but stated 'anarchism' of the judicial system.
V. Lytvyn emphasized that if the Party of Yu.Tymoshenko had shown more dignified behaviour and had observed all the rules and procedures, it would have had some advantages. Thus, The Chairman is convinced that the defense should have been guided by logics rather than mere emotions.
"I suppose that arguments and logics would be more suitable here than confrontation. Yu.Tymoshenko and her team might have had advantages under such conditions", he explained.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada could not predict the terms of the judicial proceedings.
Press Secretary of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
