Mykola Tomenko: The Complete Academy Publication of Works of Lesia Ukrainka shall be dedicated to 150th Anniversary of the Prominent Poetess
Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine,
took part on Monday in opening of the restored monument to Lesia Ukrainka on Baikivske cemetery. Mykola Tomenko´s Fund "Ridna Kraina" funded purchase of
necessary equipment and materials connected with restoration of the part of the
monument - bronze wreath.
M. Tomenko declared in his speech before the devotees of the poetess creativity that he "is proud of the fact I has have a part in opening of the monument to "the greatest woman of Ukraine" since it helped to preserve the Ukrainian world." "Protection of the Ukrainian worlds means protection of monuments, tombs, ideas, values. It is the work I am supposed to do", he emphasized.
Deputy Chairman stressed lack of attention to the prominent figures in the history and culture of Ukraine. Thus he suggested that editing of the complete publication of works of Lesia Ukrainka shall be dedicated to her 150th anniversary.
In the event to commemorate prominent
poetess took part representatives of the Literature Institute, "Prosvita" organization, National Union of Ukrainian
Ethnographers, Lesia Ukrainka Public Library, B. Oliynyk, Deputy of the
previous convocations of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, O. Bryhinets, Deputy of Kyiv city
council and mass media representatives.

In the current year, Ukraine celebrates 140th anniversary of Lesia Ukrainka Birthday and 100th anniversary of her creation of Lisova Pisnia fairy drama that became the top element of the Ukrainian dramaturgy. Last year on Baikivske cemetery act of vandalism took place: the unknown people destroyed ornamental finishing of the tomb bronze wreath in the form of laurel leafs and flowers that has always been a sign of people´s love and appreciation. The decoration was an integral part of creative concept of famous Ukrainian sculptor, People´s Artist of Ukraine Halyna Petrashkevych; the monument itself was established in 1939 and is an architectural and cultural monument).
