Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, is convinced that tariff policy in the sphere of public utility services shall be developed with account of regional specificities.
Asked by the journalists on Wednesday, V. Lytvyn stated that a single tariff policy should be shaped. He believes that this issue requires a holistic approach.
However, the Head of the Parliament deems necessary to consider such an index as the average wages rate in regions. According to him, salaries in Ternopil region are among the lowest, while in Kyiv region the best in Ukraine. Thus, V. Lytvyn stressed that the average rate of the utility tariff shall not be "too high and heavy for citizens in regions with low wages rate." "Hence, the tariffs for regions with low wages rate and for Kyiv region can not be the same", stated the Chairman.
Volodymyr Lytvyn believes that the Government shall find the means to cover the difference in tariffs.
