Polish Senate passed the resolution on the celebration of the World Day of Polonia and Poles living abroad in 2002. The tenth celebration of this Day is held in Ukraine in the towns of Vinnytsia and Berdychiv.

 

V.Lytvyn stated that he was glad to be present at the festivities, as Ukraine and Poland are united by long-lasting good-neighbourly relations and cooperation.  "It is good that we understand the destinies of our nations and states," stated the Head of the Parliament.  He informed that a great many Ukrainians are living in Poland, while plenty Poles are residing in Ukraine. "They have always had a right to live and work here," stressed the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. However, he admitted, "Despite different historical events, human memory keeps only the inspiring and glorious moments." V.Lytvyn also supposes that culture and spirituality should always be in high demand.

 

V.Lytvyn believes that Ukraine and Poland should contribute to the common cause of building the united Europe. "Prospects and predictability of Europe depend on our joint efforts," he stated, expressing his hopes that Poland will support European pursuit of Ukraine.

 

The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine greeted the natives of Poland with the holiday.  

 

As it was reported, on May 6-7, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, takes part in the festivities dedicated to the celebration of the World Day of Polonia and Poles living abroad. The festivities take place in the cities of Vinnytsia and Berdychiv with the participation of Polish Senate Marshal Bogdan Borusewicz.
