Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, appealed to Anatolii Mohyliov, Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, with a request to investigate the situation with numerous cases of arson in the property of businessmen-followers of opposition, in Cherkasy region in particular.
He reminded of mass media reports that last week the police detained a criminal group specialized in contract crimes connected with intentional destruction of property such as arson. Mass media informed about the prejudicial inquiry followed with search of twenty dwellings, the results of which led to the court permission to search the dwelling of Zolotonosha town mayor.
However, Mykola Tomenko stated that cases of arson had not stopped. He informed on the recent appeal of a businessman from Zolotonosha district of Cherkasy region concerning intentional arson in the shop premises he leased.
M. Tomenko doubts the impartiality of the local law-enforcement agencies in investigating this crime, since all the efforts of the local police proved vain. Thus, the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada is convinced that the Ministry on Internal Affairs should investigate the mentioned cases.
