The bill (Reg. No.6342), adopted by the Verkhovna Rada as a basis on February 1, 2011, abolishes the provision of the Law "On Television and Radio Broadcasting" that establishes a fifty-per-cent quota for musical works of Ukrainian origin in the broadcast.
The amendments are based on the principles of the European Convention on Transfrontier Television ratified by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on December 17, 2008.
The Committee members stated that Ukrainian music products are under the risk of disappearing from the radio stations. The working group was set up to reach a compromise and fix it on the legislative level.
