Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, calls for seeking the spheres of mutually beneficial cooperation to complement the economies of Ukraine, Lithuania and Poland, and strengthen the states in the face of modern challenges.

Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, made this statement at the sitting of the Bureau of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, Sejm and Senate of the Republic of Poland in the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

V. Lytvyn emphasized that a new vision of cooperation with neighboring states shall alleviate the negative consequences for the national economies and the public. "Thus, I suggest focusing on the aspects of common interest to strengthen our states in the light of forthcoming global challenges", Volodymyr Lytvyn stressed.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada calls for boosting regional integration. He stated that historical and cultural proximity of our states would facilitate this process.

Discussing trilateral relations, V. Lytvyn expressed his hopes that in 2011, Lithuania and Ukraine will organize a Humanitarian Forum in Vilnius, similar to the Forum for Dialogue launched by Ukraine and Poland.

Volodymyr Lytvyn believes that issues of history, language and culture shall be tackled by scholars and experts. "Politicians shall be perfectly aware of their achievements instead of assessing different historical events, let alone tragic ones. History shall be perceived as a whole", he is convinced.
