Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, believes that refusal of the majority from the expert discussion of the higher education reform at the Parliament confirms that pro-power factions shouldered the responsibility for the incompetent and non-transparent higher education reform which is being implemented by the Ministry of Education, Science, Youth Matters and Sports against the will of the students and the teaching staff.
M.Tomenko made this statement, commenting upon the vote for the draft resolution on holding of the parliamentary hearings "Higher Education Reform in Ukraine" (April 20, 2011).
"Under the pressure of the Ministry of Education and Science, the pro-governmental factions have obviously been afraid to make discussion of the higher education reform democratic," M.Tomenko admitted. "The authorities´ refusal from the expert review of the education reform will lead to its discussion "in the streets."
