Borys Tarasiuk is Co-Chairman of the Committee on
Inter-Parliamentary Liaison between Ukraine and the European Union,
representing the Ukrainian Party.
The Final Resolution and the Guidelines on the state of relations between Ukraine and the EU, political situation in Ukraine, and cooperation in the neighbourhood have been adopted further to the joint two-day proceedings (March 15-16, 2011).
In the Final Resolution, members of the Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Liaison welcomed the results of the latest Ukraine-EU Summit on November 22, 2010, and reminded that relations between Ukraine the EU are based on the common values and history.
The Resolution reads that under the European Parliament Resolution on Ukraine of November 25, 2010, and article 49 of the Treaty on the European Union, Ukraine can apply for membership in the European Union like any European State that observes the principles of freedom, democracy, respect for human rights and fundamental liberties, and supremacy of law.
The Committee called for dynamic negotiations concerning the Agreement on Association between Ukraine and the EU, and presumable completion of the talks by the end of 2011.
The Committee welcomed harmony in the appeals of the Ukrainian Government and political opposition regarding European orientation of Ukraine and its intention to become a European Union member nation.
The parliamentarians also called for strengthening trust, stability, independence and effective work of the Ukrainian institutions, guarantying democracy and supremacy of law to facilitate coordinated constitutional reform based on strict separation of power branches and effective checks and balances system between the state institutions.
The Committee attaches great importance to corruption counteraction in Ukraine and transparent investigation of criminal cases against the officials representing both present and former authorities; called for the unprejudiced persecution of officials to facilitate counteraction of corruption that shakes the foundations of political stability and economic development.
