Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, appreciates activity of the acting Government and Mykola Azarov, Prime Minister of Ukraine.

"Despite the hardships in the socio-economic sector, I appreciate the activity of the Government and the Prime Minister," V.Lytvyn stated, asked to assess the year of work of the acting Cabinet of Ministers at the press conference in the town of Yaremche (Ivano-Frankivsk region).

V.Lytvyn stated that the acting Government had been formed after the presidential elections, when "the country is usually in shambles." However, he stated that "actions have been taken to the maximum" in the current economic situation.  The Head of the Parliament stressed that the Cabinet of Ministers managed to pay off the debts and control the situation. Moreover, macroeconomic indicators of the last year were positive. "The trend of this year should be consolidated and developed," he stressed.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine believes that this year "will be a year of withstanding for the Government, as well as a year of vital transformations."  "These transformations are being considered in light of unpopular resolutions. One should have the nerve to talk about them today, because tomorrow it will be too late," V.Lytvyn admitted. "One should realize that the rating will fall as the time passes."

"If we withhold and do not break down to populism and confrontations, the year of 2011 will become a year of fruitful work," he summed up. The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine calls for preserving "a working dialogue and demanding conversation" between the Parliament and the Government. "Then any resolution will be well-grounded and logical," he stated.

Commenting upon the talks about possible resignation of the Government, V.Lytvyn stated, "It is nothing more than talks, because all political forces will try to position themselves as the opposition to the Cabinet of Ministers in view of the forthcoming parliamentary elections."

Dwelling upon the drawbacks in the Government´s work, the Head of the Parliament singled out the failure in the information campaign during the discussion and adoption of the Tax Code and development of the pension reform.
