The primary purpose of the bill on Ukraine´s Accession to the Convention on the Protection of Children and Cooperation in Respect of Intercountry
Adoption (Reg.
No. 0201) is to enhance legislation on intercountry
adoption. The bill on amendments to several Legislative Acts of Ukraine due to
Ukraine´s Accession to the Convention on the Protection of Children and Cooperation in Respect of Intercountry
Adoption (Reg. No.7496) amends the Family Code and the Law "On
Protection of Childhood" due to Ukraine´s accession to the Convention. It bans commercial
mediation activities by adoption of children, and their transfer into custody,
care or upbringing in the family.
The Committee members stated that upon ratification
of the Convention, Ukraine will be able to control the children adopted by the foreigners,
as the effective tools of control are nominal, and do not allow to keep a close
watch on the adopted children.
