The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine calls for boosting Ukrainian-Romanian Cooperation

On Wednesday, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met Cornel Ionescu, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Ukraine. The Parties discussed the state and perspectives of relations between Ukraine and Romania. They called for strengthening the Ukrainian-Romanian contacts and boosting partnership in the political, economic and social spheres, European integration matters, transnational and regional cooperation.

Mr. Ambassador assured the Head of the Ukrainian Parliament of the intentions of the Romanian Party to boost the bilateral dialogue on the problematic issues. He expects the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to facilitate the process. "There are no problems in the relations between our states that can not be resolved. I would like to be an advocate of good relations between Bucharest and Kyiv", Cornel Ionescu stated.

V. Lytvyn promised to exert his efforts to intensify inter-parliamentary Ukrainian-Romanian relations. He stated that the Ukrainian Parliament was ready to host the official visit of the leaders of both chambers of the Romanian Parliament. "We are looking forward to the open dialogue with the Romanian parliamentarians. We will discuss our common matters instead of searching for discrepancies and issues that split our nations", he declared. According to the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, "strengthening of cooperation will help to settle sensitive issues in the relations between Ukraine and Romania." "We are neighbours and should have normal, stable and friendly relations" V. Lytvyn believes.
