Mykola Tomenko: The Authorities will follow the Steps of L.Chernovetskyi as to the Privatization of Libraries and Bookshops
Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, believes that the authorities will follow the steps of L.Chernovetskyi as to the privatization of libraries and bookshops. Thus he interprets the refusal of the majority, except of the Communist Party of Ukraine Faction, to support the bill on Amendments to the Law "On Privatization of Small State Enterprises (Small Privatization)" (on Prohibition of Privatization of Premises where Libraries, Book Shops and State Publishing Houses are located) (Reg. No.5449).
"It is not surprising, as most deputies of the majority "actively cooperated" with a "young team" of Leonid Chernovetskyi on privatization, that is destruction of bookshops and libraries in Kyiv. The today´s attempt to stop ‘the destruction´ failed," M.Tomenko stated. Although the authorities mildly criticize Leonid Chernovetskyi´s team, privatization of premises of the bookshops, libraries and state-owned publishing houses will continue. "The authorities will follow the steps of L.Chernovetskyi, as it is profitable to legalize the facilities that had already been privatized and sweep the last territory of the Ukrainian culture," the Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stated. The politician believes that the public should protect every educational facility to be included into the privatization plan.
