Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, is ready to run in the elections in the majority constituency, not the voting lists. M.Tomenko made this statement in the interview to Kommentarii newspaper.

"The politicians who claim for the status of a national leader shall not make themselves safe in the party lists, but stand for election on their own. I am ready for this test," M.Tomenko stated.

The Deputy Chairman stressed that he is ready to take this step, if the elections are held in March 2011 and the law on elections is amended. He attaches importance to the following aspects of the election laws: formation of the territorial election commission in the proportion 50 for 50 (authorities and the opposition), quorum in the commission 50+1, prohibition for the commission members to deregister the candidates, as it happened during the local elections. "I know that it is rather difficult to win in the majority constituency, but those who claim for the status of a national leader shall gain their victory this way. I am ready for this, provided the elections are held in March, and the law is properly drafted. Otherwise, I am afraid that as a member of the opposition I might be deregistered the night before the elections," the politician stated.
