Analyzing the results of a five-day protest against the adoption of a new Tax Code, Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, drew attention to a tactic victory: the authorities admitted to the harmfulness of several provisions of the Code adopted by the representatives of the factions in power on the order of the Government. "Furthermore, yesterday´s meeting with the delegates of the businesspeople in the President´s Administration showed that the presidential party admitted to the drawbacks in the strengthening of the Tax Inspectorate", he emphasised.
However, he believes that development of affairs will depend on another circumstance: whether the protesting entrepreneurs will reach a common stance. "The organization of the protesters seems to have two opposite strategies. The first strategy agrees to the concession on the part of the authorities as to the normal activity of the small and medium-sized business, while the second one would use the protest to form a new party to represent the small and medium-sized business at the coming parliamentary elections", the Deputy Chairman stated.
"Thus, the first victory of the entrepreneurs´ action of protest is that the authorities admitted that the new Tax Code restricted the rights and liberties of the businesspeople", he declared.
