Mykola Tomenko: The Tax Police that acts as "an Armed Unit" to fight "the Disagreeable" Businessmen should be liquidated
After the bill "On Amendments to several Laws of Ukraine regarding Liquidation of the Tax Police" (Reg. No. 7073) was discussed at the session hall and rejected, Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, stated, "Unfortunately, the coalition factions are in the proverbial state: they "understand everything, but can not vote." However, he believes that this unit will be liquidated sooner or later, as its activity contravenes the applicable law and the Constitution.
M.Tomenko stated that the tax police are usually used to exert pressure on business. "We have received numerous appeals regarding the illegal search, when the tax police search the apartments of the businessmen, members of other parties, or those who dare to declare an independent stance," the politician stated. "Today every businessman has lost his peace and confidence, as they can come in the middle of the night to detain them or demand some documents," he stated.
Thus, today Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine rejected the bill "On Amendments to several Laws of Ukraine regarding Liquidation of the Tax Police." 114 out of 418 People´s Deputies registered at the session hall endorsed the bill. 91 People´s Deputies of the BYuT Faction, 22 People´s Deputies from Our Ukraine-People´s Self-Defence Faction, and 1 non-affiliated People´s Deputy supported the draft.
