In the hearings too part People´s Deputies of Ukraine, representatives of the executive power, Ukrainians abroad, culture and public figures.

 

Opening the hearings, Adam Martyniuk, First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, stated that for the period of independence it is for the first time that the Parliament scrutinizes issues on role, place and significance of Ukrainians in the world civilization.

 

A. Martyniuk emphasised "for today almost 17 million of Ukrainians are living abroad and of course they remain Ukrainian´s though they are citizens of those states where they live, work for the wellbeing of they states of residence, but still they glorify our state and nation."

 

Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs Ruslan Demchenko emphasised that the great task of the project "Ukrainian in the World" that would be discussed during the hearings, is the formation of the national conceptual positions, ideas, principles and convictions of the modern Ukrainian; fostering them with respect to our historical past with the help of bright examples of our prominent fellow citizens, clergymen from the age of Kyiv Rus to the present days.

 

Petro Yushchenko, People´s Deputy of Ukraine, initiator of the project declared that the project reflects way of life of Ukrainians, establishing of the world civilization in the territory of modern Ukraine and beyond its borders, includes spheres of spiritual development, state formation, cultural, medical and military spheres, literature, enlightenment and scientific-research.

 

Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Viktoria Lisnycha declared: "the project "Ukrainians in the World" is an enlightenment action that the people require, that forms new history, spiritual roots and loves our land. This project reflects the significant role of the Ukrainian intelligentsia for the process of social development, its place in the world civilizational space."

 

Volodymyr Yavorivskyi, Chairman of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Culture and Spirituality emphasised that "it is necessary to pay attention to the ethnical Ukrainians first of all, that are living in their own, native environment, consolidated and glorified our nation and state." "In the second circle there should be prominent Ukrainians first of all in Russia of course." Then, according to V. Yavorivskii "one should define one more circle Ukrainians in remote not Slavic states."

 

The People´s Deputy of Ukraine Volodymyr Moisyk declared that the purpose of hearings - "to reveal the spiritual devotees in Ukraine form the period of Kyiv Rus to the present days, discuss known and unknown figures in the different spheres of the human activity, born in Ukraine and those paying special role in the world history" namely, he mentioned names of eminent historical military figures who are, according to him, Ukrainians.

 

Mykola Zhulynskii, President of the Literature Institute of the National Academy of Arts focused the attention on the problems of Ukrainians-migrants and stated that external labour migration of Ukrainian is the process covering at least 10% from 47 million of migrants in the world, though real rates of the labour migration abroad are not indicated in the statistic data because of great number of illegal migration.

 

Ivan Drach, Head of the Community on Connections between Ukrainians abroad "Ukraine-World" stated: "Today we shall discuss those Ukrainians that made Ukraine, that care and work for its sake, those who sacrificed own lives for Ukraine. Let us finally appreciate that we speak on the national Ukrainian state."

 

Yaroslava Hortiani, Head of the European Congress of Ukrainians, First Deputy Head of the World Congress of Ukrainians (Hungary) stated that twenty-million Ukrainians diaspora living in more than 100 countries of the world, has formed its national public organization in 57 states.

 

Evdokia Kolesnyk. Professor of the National Music Academy of Ukraine named after Chaikovskyi focused the attention on the following: "We should preserve memory about our artists-devotees, especially now, under the conditions of the global civilization we should preserve our self-being and own cultural environment."

 

Oleh Zarybinskyi, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights, National Minorities and International relations emphasised the following: "If we continue accepting drawbacks of state management, economics and all the other social problems as it is, if fatality becomes our way of life acceptance and country development, the world will not remember us, it would forget all our achievements and us, living here and now. We should be oriented on the success of those Ukrainians that managed to make their lives brilliant and glorify our state."

 

After all the participants have delivered their speeches, Petro Yushchenko answered all the questions of the audience.
