Today, in the course of the press conference in informational agency UNIAN, Mykola Tomenko, the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine declared that the authorities failed to keep their principal promise of 2010.
He reminded that the principal promise of election campaign 2010, and also after the completion of the campaign, was the task not to increase the prices on gas. "Though, the decision of gas prices increase is adopted, and that caused the increase of the tariffs, on public utility services in particular, hence, it means the break of the promises made by the authorities", M. Tomenko emphasised.
The Deputy Chairman stated that the President and the Government used to break their election promises before though one may speak about the promise given by Viktor Yanukovych as a President of Ukraine and Mykola Azarov, as a Prime Minister of Ukraine.
"We strongly believed that the Government would appeal against National Electricity Regulatory Commission of Ukraine resolution, regarding the increase of prices on natural gas for the citizens in 50% from 1 August 2010", he declared and reminded that such precedents have taken place already, in particular in the Government of Yulia Tymoshenko, when the resolution of NERC was stopped by the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers.
Still, M. Tomenko is convinced that now it is not so important what was the reason of such actions, "though it is principally essential that the Party of Regions team ‘made full use´ of its voters first by the means of such promises and now of its citizens already." "It is obvious that the fundamental reason for such step was the necessity to sustain the economic situation under the condition of repayment of enormous debt to RosUkrEnergo and complete execution of IMF requirements", he declared.
M. Tomenko also announced that "Batkivshchyna" Party would appeal to the court to recognize illegal the Resolution of NERC from 13 July 2010 and "in case the Resolution is not stopped, we shall introduce strict monitoring of the subventions payment for the part of the citizens that are not able to pay the tariffs.
