Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, declares that Confrontation in the Parliament may have a Negative Impact on the Situation in the Country

In the interview to Chas TV program (Channel 5), V.Lytvyn stated that the situation in the Parliament was not "a struggle to protect the public." "This struggle pursues only one goal to break each other. Either the opposition takes over the authorities, or vice versa," he stated. "As a matter of fact, the presidential campaign still continues."

According to the Head of the Parliament, "this confrontation is fraught with the danger of breaking the country." "Ukraine can become a high price for this conflict," V.Lytvyn declared.

The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is surprised that the opposition blocks its work, opposing the scrutiny of issues it has initiated, in particular, the bill on the moratorium on the increase of the public utility tariffs. If the bills submitted by the opposition were scrutinized in conformity to the parliamentary procedures, the authorities would be obliged to take their standpoint into account and act correspondingly. However, no final resolutions on the growth of the public utility tariffs or increase of the retirement age have been passed.

According to V.Lytvyn, "this resulted in the public tension, tiring struggle and impossibility to adopt important resolutions." "These dishonourable developments should have been suspended long ago," the Head of the Parliament admitted. However, "no one wants to neglect the public moods of admirers of different political forces." "Moreover, the election campaign to the local authority bodies is going to start. The winner of the previous elections is willing to strengthen the victory. The party that lost strives for revenge. In the result, we have a fierce confrontation," he consigned. "Unfortunately, The Verkhovna Rada is the epicenter of this conflict."
