On the eve of scrutiny of the bill "On the Fundamentals of Domestic and Foreign Policy" submitted by the President of Ukraine in the second reading, Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, pointed out that the parliamentary coalition failed to support the constitutional requirement for the status of Ukrainian as the State language for the second time.
M.Tomenko drew attention to this issue, when the bill was being scrutinized in the first reading. Then, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, announced that the participants of the National Security and Defence Council headed by the President Yanukovych resolved to harmonize ‘language clause´ of the bill "On the Fundamentals of Domestic and Foreign Policy" with article 10 of the Constitution of Ukraine.
M.Tomenko reminded that he had introduced several remarks to the bill, offering clear-cut version of part 1 clause 10. "It would harmonize the bill with the Fundamental Law of Ukraine and the resolution of the National Security and Defence Council", M.Tomenko stated.
The Deputy Chairman declared that his amendments regarding the State language of Ukraine had been rejected.
M.Tomenko hopes that he will drew attention to this topic during the discussion of the bill, finally clarifying the stand of the Party of Regions and other factions regarding the status of the State language in Ukraine.
