Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, is convinced that the Bill on Elections of the Local Self-Government is supposed to meet the Expectations of the Society

"I am deeply convinced that now we should do everything possible to draft the Law to meet the expectations and needs of the society", V. Lytvyn stated, asked by the journalists in the Parliament on Thursday after adoption of the bill on the elections of the People´s Deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of the Autonomous Republic of the Crimea, local councils and village, township and city mayors. "There are no real defenders of this bill and it means that we must stop political fighting and make the bill more balanced for the second reading", V. Lytvyn stressed.

"Unfortunately, as usually, we are pressed for time", he added.

Asked by the journalists about the certain norms of the bill, in particular, on the mayors nominations by the political parties, V. Lytvyn indicated that the city mayors that represent interests of the citizens should be accountable before them first of all. V. Lytvyn is also convinced that the mayors "should strictly define and make it public, what political platform they do support."

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine does not exclude that in the process of the elaboration of the bill for the second reading, norms of the bill would be corrected taking into the consideration the remarks of the Association of the Cities of Ukraine and local self-government bodies.
