Adopting the Budget and the Tax Codes, and the Law on the Fundamentals of Domestic and Foreign Policy during this session, the Parliament will confirm implementation of its basic function.
Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, made this statement, asked by Profil-Ukraina magazine about the efficiency of the Parliament´s work for the last half-year.
V.Lytvyn stated that "several deputies and faction representatives became frightened of their own temper demonstrated on 27 April and realized that they crossed the red line that opens way to the mass grave, which made them go back." "This is one of the reasons why The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine demonstrates the wonders of efficiency", he stated. "If the Parliament adopts the Law on the Fundamentals of Domestic and Foreign Policy, the Draft Budget and Tax Codes, and other economic acts (with necessary adjustments), it will confirm fulfillment of its basic function."
V.Lytvyn expects that the parliament members will thoroughly discuss these drafts in the second reading. According to the Head of the Parliament, at least 600 amendments were submitted to the bill on the fundamentals of domestic and foreign policy, 778 amendments to the bill on referendum, 640 amendments to the bill on the judicial system. "I believe that as many amendments will be introduced to the Budget and the Tax Codes, since several provisions should be excluded", V.Lytvyn stated.
